Publication and Research Ethics
The Faculty of Education Scientific Journal is guided in publication ethics by the Core Principles and guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and follows the COPE flowcharts when handling possible misconduct.
Principles
| Principle | In the journal |
|---|---|
| Accountability | The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for publication decisions, and authors have a published route for appeals and complaints. |
| Fairness, justice and equity | Double-blind review, and scholarly decisions unaffected by fees or by the author's institution. |
| Integrity | Similarity checking of every manuscript, conflict of interest disclosure, and the Plagiarism and Retraction Policy. |
| Rigour and accuracy | Independent reviewer reports, and correction or retraction after publication when an error is established. |
| Stewardship | Persistent identifiers (DOI), the CC BY 4.0 licence, and a preservation policy. |
| Transparency | Policies, procedures and fees published in both languages. |
Editors' responsibilities
- Judging manuscripts on their scholarly content, without discrimination on grounds of gender, nationality, institution or belief.
- Checking originality, and sending manuscripts to competent and diverse reviewers who do not all belong to one institution.
- Protecting the confidentiality of authors and reviewers, and sharing no information about a manuscript beyond those involved in the editorial process.
- Giving authors a reasonable opportunity to revise and to respond to comments.
- Informing the author of the final decision with its reasons, and of the issue scheduled for the article on acceptance.
- Publishing corrections and notices promptly when needed.
Reviewers' responsibilities
Reviewers observe confidentiality, objectivity and deadlines, disclose conflicts of interest, and do not use information from the manuscript for their own benefit. Details are in the Reviewer Guidelines.
Authors' responsibilities
- Submitting original work that has not been published before and is not under consideration elsewhere.
- Not submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal at a time, and formally withdrawing it from this journal before submitting it elsewhere.
- Avoiding fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, duplicate publication, and splitting the results of one study across several articles without justification.
- Following the rules of quotation and referencing, and attributing ideas and data to their sources.
- Listing everyone who contributed under the Authorship and Contribution Policy, and obtaining their agreement before submission.
- Disclosing funding, conflicts of interest and use of AI.
- Responding to reviewers' comments, and giving reasons for any not adopted.
- Informing the journal promptly on discovering a significant error in a published article, and cooperating in its correction or retraction.
The views expressed in published articles are those of their authors and do not necessarily represent the views of the editorial board, the Faculty of Education or Sirte University.
Research involving participants
Most of the journal's articles are field studies involving students, teachers or parents. Authors therefore commit to the following, and state it in the methodology section:
- Obtaining approval from the competent body (a research ethics committee at their institution, or the school or education authority concerned), and stating the body, approval number and date where available.
- Obtaining informed consent from participants, and from parents or guardians where participants are minors, informing them of their right to withdraw.
- Protecting participants' privacy, and publishing nothing that reveals their identity, such as names, photographs or data.
Misconduct
Possible misconduct (plagiarism, fabrication, false authorship, duplicate publication and manipulation of peer review) is handled according to the COPE flowcharts: the author is first asked for an explanation, then appropriate action is taken, such as rejection, correction or retraction, and the author's institution may be informed.
