The Position of the French Press toward Italian Fascist Policy in Libya (1932–1940)

Abstract

This study examines French press coverage of the Italian occupation of Libya and analyzes the major political events of that period, as well as their role in shaping public opinion regarding the occupation. In addition, it explores the efforts of the French press to identify the political strategies adopted by Italy to advance its colonial interests and its relations with other colonial countries. French newspaper articles addressed a wide range of topics, from description of Libyan cities to analyses of economic projects, and from accounts of climatic conditions to reports on military campaigns and political visits. The research therefore encompasses multiple aspects of life in Libya under Italian occupation and highlights the perspective of the French press on these events, providing a deeper understanding of Libyan history from a French viewpoint.
