The international community's interest in the issue of violence began with the issuance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. As for the issue of violence against women in particular, it began with the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, which, although it does not address the issue of violence against women explicitly and directly, interpretations The Convention and the recommendations of the committee charged with following up the Convention made it clear that gender-based violence represents: forms of discrimination that seriously hinder women’s ability to enjoy their rights and freedoms on the basis of equality with men, which means that the protections contained in the Convention extend to all forms of this violence directed against women, so The subject of this study was an attempt to identify the role played by non-governmental organizations in combating violence against Libyan women.
