Abstract

The maximum diameter criterion currently has been widely used to predict the risk of rupture of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). The effect of the aneurysm diameter on the flow pattern and stress distribution is carried out in this study by using the fully coupling fluid structure interaction analysis with hyperelastic material and Non Newtonian fluid models. The results show that the aneurysm diameter effects the direction of flow and also causing increase in the size of vortices as the diameter increased. The stress on the inner wall is higher than the outer wall, and the different between them decreased as the diameter increase. Linear correlation was observed between the aneurysm diameter and maximum stress (R2= 0.9418). These results have confirmed the aneurysm diameter as an important parameter to predict the aneurysm rupture.
