هدفت الدراسة إلى التعرف على محددات الاستثمار الأجنبي المباشر في السودان ، فعلى الرغم من الجهود التي قام بها السودان في تحسين مناخ الاستثمار وتقديم حوافز للمستثمرين ، إلا انها لم تلقي بظلالها المرجوه عبى تنوع الاستثمارات الأجنبية المباشرة وبالتالي تأثيرها على التنمية الاقتصادية ، لمحاولة حل هذه الإشكالية استخدمت الدراسة خلال الفترة (1992-2017) . وتوصلت الدراسة إلى نتائج أهمها ، أن النموذج القياسي جاء معنوياً حيث تم تفسير 90% من التغيرات التي تطرأ على الاستثمار الأجنبي المباشر الحقيقي السوداني بواسطة المتغيرات المستقلة ، وهي الناتج المحلي الإجمالي الحقيقي ، والانفتاح التجاري ، والعجز المالي ، وسعر الفائدة الحقيقي ، ومعدل التضخم ، ورصيد الدين الخارجي ، وسعر الصرف الحقيقي ، بدرجة ثقة بلغت 95% ، وأغلب تأثير هذه المتغيرات كان إيجابياً ما عدا رصيد الدين الخارجي . وأوصت الدراسة بإجراء إصلاحات هيكلية لدعم مسارات النمو طويل الأجل من خلال تحسين الإنتاجية والتنافسية ، وتطوير أداء الاقتصاد الكلي عن طريق تبني سياسات هامة للتكيف مع الاختلالات الداخلية والخارجية ، وتطوير البنية التحتية وتحديث قوانين الاستثمار .
