Abstract

This study reports a simple method for the preparation of cobalt (II) complexes with nitrilotriacetate (NTA), using periodateas oxidizing agent. Aternary complexes, [Co(II)(NTA)(S)(H2O)2]3-, [Co(II)(NTA)(L)(H2O)2]3-and [Co(II)(NTA)(M)(H2O)]3-involving

NTA-Co(II) andsuccinic, maleic andmalonicacidsin aqueous medium were prepared and characterized. The oxidation of Co(II) complexes by IO4- may proceed via one or two electron- transfer in the rate determining step. These complexes shows that IO4- ion is capable of acting as a good complexing ligand. The formulae of the prepared complexes were further confirmed by IR, TGA and UV-Vis analysis. The absorbance of the complexes were conducted at wavelength 580 nm and maximal pH range from 4to 5.
