Abstract

The Jewish commercial families found in the ports of the Algiers Eyalet the conditions that provided them with superiority over other groups, and these families also benefited from the marginalization policy applied by the Ottoman rulers in Algeria to others, as they took advantage of the preoccupation of some members of the Diwan and senior officers of the Janissaries and midwives with trade to engage with them in the interests of Joint either as mediators, agents, or even partners at times, this relationship allowed many of them to establish companies that achieved great success and were the nucleus of the Jewish trade network that monopolized Algeria's foreign trade and dominated it and directed its foreign policy, and the Jews played the role of mediator in diplomatic relations between Algeria and Western countries, This is what we will work to highlight through this research by addressing the influence that the Jews reached in Algeria during the Ottoman era, and then focusing on the role that the Jews played as mediators between Algeria and Western countries, especially European ones, thanks to the influence they achieved.
