Contract farming to support the development and improvement of agricultural land production and its sustainability: A case study of Al-Zawiyah Al-Janoub Municipality

Abstract

This study aimed to shed light on the topic of contract farming, highlighting its features and obstacles, as well as the key requirements for its success. It presented some international experiences and practices in this regard. In order to achieve the study's objectives, a descriptive approach was adopted to analyze the aspects of contract farming and derive facts, as well as an analytical approach to provide a clear quantitative description of the phenomenon and analyze the survey results distributed to gather the opinions of a sample of agricultural landholders in Al-Zawiyah Al-Janoub Municipality on related topics of contract farming. The study concluded a number of results, the most important of which are: that contract farming represents the most successful system for plant and animal agricultural production, bringing about a qualitative shift in the conditions of agricultural landholders, driving development processes and achieving food security. It also inferred that the agricultural landholding situation and the desires and inclinations of agricultural landholders in Al-Zawiyah Al-Janoub Municipality encourage the implementation of contract farming in the region. The study also addressed the obstacles hindering the success of farming in the region, as well as the key requirements that help achieve and succeed in it.
